essau kanyenda | The Nation OnlineFlames coach Kinnah Phiri has said South Africa-based defender Limbikani Mzava and veteran forward Esau Kanyenda have confirmed that they will join the squad in Malawi that is expected to go into camp this weekend in preparation for an international friendly against China.

Kinnah also hinted that midfielder Zicco Mkanda might join the squad if he is released by his Mozambican club Desportivo Maculmana.

“Mzava’s club Bloemfontein Celtic have agreed to release him. So, he will definitely be part of the squad for the China trip.

“Esau [Kanyenda] has also confirmed through team manager [Stuart Mbolembole] that he is returning tomorrow [today] from South Africa and he will also join the local players’ camping.

“This is a good development because both players have not been active,” said Kinnah.

Kanyenda is a free agent, having agreed to a mutual termination of his contract with Russian club Dynamo Brynsky whereas Mzava was not registered by Celtic this season.

Kanyenda has been training with his former club Jomo Cosmos in South Africa as he awaits other opportunities.

Commenting on Russell Mwafulirwa, who is training with SuperSport United in South Africa with the hope of being offered a deal, Kinnah said he will enquire from the club’s coach Gavin Hunt on his form.

“If Gavin says Russell is in good shape, then I will definitely include him, but if he states otherwise, then I will leave him out for now,” said Kinnah.
