Flames veteran striker Esau Kanyenda’s rich vein of form continues with Polokwane City of the South Africa Premier Soccer League (PSL).

Kanyenda, who is among PSL leading scorers with four goals, struck alongside Thobani Mncwango as Polokwane drew 2-2 with the Democratic Republic of Congo’s AS Leopards at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday.
City, who are third from the PSL bottom, are preparing for the second round of the South Africa league which is currently on recess as the country hosts the African Nations Championship.
City’s coach Boebie Solomons used the friendly to try fringe players. He declared himself satisfied by the workout as he continues to reshape his squad for the remainder of the season.
“It was a good practice match and I am happy about the outcome of the practice match. We are slowly coming into grip with the reality that the second round will not be easy as most teams in our positions are strengthening in terms of players,” Solomons told the club’s website.
“We should be able to know in the next week what is happening with us but no one is panicking as I have been in the game for a long time to panic. The players at my disposal have shown all the qualities of wanting to stay in the elite league and what is important is to make them believe that they can do it. We need 16 points from 15 matches to stave off relegation and that is not an impossible target.”
