Kaputa to double with Under-20

Malawi Under-17 coach John Kaputa and his right hand man Leonard ‘Leo’ Mpulula will double their roles with the Under-20 side.

The junior Flames are bound for the fifth edition of the Supreme Council for Sports in Africa (SCSA) Zone VI Under-20 Games from December 4-17 in Zambia.

A statement from FAM indicated on Thursday that Kaputa and Mpulula would conduct trials involving 25 players from Monday in Blantyre.

The players are asked to report for the trials this Sunday at the Malawi National Council of Sports hostels, behind Kamuzu Stadium. The test will run for two days with the players set to be released on Wednesday.

Central Region players dominate the squad whose technical officer is referee Grace Msiska.

The players called are Chawanangwa Kaonga, Wilson Issah, Khumbo Ng’ambi, Chifundo Phiri, Lessman Singini (Northern Region), Austin Makobidi, Morris Nthengu, Rodgers Sitima, Joel Sitima, Pilirani Malombe, Enock Matangadzira, Suwedi Limbani, Pilirani Nyirenda, Godwin Mtawali, Grant Zakumbuyo, Innocent Stanley, Alinafe Misiyasi, Nason Laston, Chisomo Hiwa from the Central Region.

The Southern Region has Antony Kaipa, Petros Kanjinga, Origin Kapalanga, Victor Khumala, Pattence Walas and Peter Msowoya. Malawi won gold at 2008 Zone VI in South Africa.

The games will take place in Lusaka. The venues are Nasdec, Nkoloma Stadium, Sunset Stadium and the Olympic Youth Development Centre.
