Hospital advisory committee (HAC) members at Karonga District Hospital have expressed concern over the drainage system of the facility.

Mwakianjala: It is worrisome

Speaking during a review meeting for the public health service delivery project by the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) on Friday, HAC chairperson Felix Mwakianjala said most of the toilets are not functional, a development he described as worrisome.

He said: ‘‘As we are in the rainy season, HAC members went around to see how good our hospital is on cleanliness, but we discovered that the surrounding is not conducive for the hospital as most of the toilets are broken and the drainage system is not up to date.”

Karonga district environmental health officer Lewis Tukula attributed the problem to over population and lack of ownership by many clients at the hospital.

“Due to over population, our toilets are always congested and broken. They require regular maintenance,” he said. n
