Kasambara charged, wants JB as witness
Former Malawi Justice Minister Ralph Kasambara who was arrested on Friday in connection with the shooting of budget director Paul Mphwiyo has told Lilongwe Magistrate Court that he would want the country’s President Joyce Banda to testify in court as witness.
Kasambara and another suspect Pika Manondo were formally charged with attempted murder and Chief Resident Magistrate Ruth Chinangwa committed the matter to the High Court.
The ex-Justice Minister —who was wearing a dark suit and orange tie in court today—submitted to court that he would want in the witness dock President Banda, a State House official Cecilia Kumpukwe (a sister to President Banda), Minister of Information Brown Mpinganjira and ruling Peoples Party spokesman Hophmally Makande.
Kasambara later told the media outside the court : “…there is no case, this case will not get anywhere’.

Kicks of a dying horse. Ralph is trying to play high stakes when he knows he is cornered. Truth is all those he wants as witnesses, what did they witness? What we are following here is a trail of money stolen from the government coffers, and it’s linkages to the shooting of budget director. Unless he can prove the existence of this money in the accounts of the so called witnesses, and their involvement with Paul Mphwiyo, they all have no case to answer. Let the games begin.

Kasambara has expressed himself both symbolically and Orally, he chose his dressing and words very carefully and am sure that after that court session he got many phone calls of anger. Fellow Malawians symbols and words should be understood very well especially coming from a prominent lawyer. In my own analysis, i think this what Kasambara said: ‘ I am PP, I did it all for PP and Madam president is my witness, if you don’t believe call her in the chambers’ and his statement to reporters sums it all up; the statement meant this: ‘ Mama wants to go down with me, let her continue the case’
