Kasasa golf course to wear new face

Illovo Sugar (Malawi) Company’s Kasasa Golf Club in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota is set to undergo rehabilitation that will see the facility having a 3.5 kilometre electric perimeter fence to enhance security.

According to Kasasa Club golf captain Robert Ngala, the rehabilitation aims at making the course secure and more competitive.

Ngala: We have been having some problems

“We have been having some problems such as people from around Dwangwa community using the golf course as a path, sometimes, even when a round of golf is in progress. This is risky to people’s lives because the golf ball can injure them,” he said.

“Moreover, it is due to similar reasons that we were unable to construct some water hazards on the course as we feared children passing through it could drown. But with the latest developments, the golf course will be safe and more enjoyable.”

Ngala said Unitrans has offered to fund the electric fence installation to the tune of K10 million while Illovo will pay for the other structures.

Unitrans senior depot manager in Dwangwa, Daniel Bester, said they decided to contribute towards the erection of the fence as a way of appreciating their long relationship with Illovo.

“We have been in relationship with the sugar company for over 40 years and the donation is a way of appreciating that feat. Aside from that, we want to help make Kasasa Club one of the safest and most exciting golf courses in the country,” Bester said. n
