Kasungu Police elects new station executive committee

Police in Kasungu recently elected a station executive committee (SEC) during a meeting held at Kasungu Community Hall.

The elections took place after the station completed revamping all community police forums (CPFs) in the district.

Kasungu Police spokesperson Edwin Kaunda said during the exercise, existing CPFs were trained on how they can effectively perform their duties.

He said the meeting was convened to elect the SEC whose term of office will run for two years.

“The meeting was attended by all traditional authorities [T/As], community policing members, the district commissioner [DC] and other stakeholders in the district. All members present participated in the voting process,” said Kaunda.

Abid Mahood was re-elected chairperson.

In his acceptance speech, Mahood said he is ready to take up the challenge of heading the SEC again. He said he is ready to work with everyone in the district. He also assured participants that he will try his best to make sure that community policing in Kasungu is taken seriously.

He also said his goals will include mobilisation of funds so that the committee buys equipment which members of the CPFs can use during their work in a quest to revamp the efficiency of community policing in the district.

Senior Chief Lukwa, who was also in attendance, congratulated Mahood and the entire new committee.

He urged them to work hard to tackle some of the challenges which the district is facing like defilement which is on the rise in the district.

The SEC meeting was funded by Plan Malawi, among other stakeholders.
