Malawi Police Service (MPS) has warned against albino killing and abduction, saying it will deal strongly with anyone caught.

Senior Deputy Commissioner Hannings Mlotha said this during a solidarity march in Kasungu organised by MPS in collaboration with the Judiciary, National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) and the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP), among other stakeholders.

“Police will leave no stone unturned in order to uproot and end the malpractice,” said Mlotha, adding: “We are taking this very seriously. We are raising awareness among members of the public that this form of evil needs to be rooted out.”

He said the police needs the community to help them identify, apprehend and bring the perpetrators to court.

Mlotha, therefore, urged the public to join hands and report to police any suspicious activity if they are to end the malpractice.

Speaking on behalf of people with albinism, Taonga Simukonda condemned and described the act as foreign, saying shedding blood of a human being cannot bring success.

Simukonda commended government and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) for standing up against the act.

Kasungu has registered six cases of abduction, killing and exhumation of remains of people with albinism.

Among the activities, there was a big walk from the district council offices to Kasungu Community Ground led by Police Band, traditional, religious, political leaders, and people from different government departments and NGOs. n
