For the first time in his golf career, Justice Katsala amassed 37 points to emerge champion in the J and J Construction Golf Tournament which took place at Zomba Gymkhana Club Golf Course on Sunday.

Katsala shrugged off a challenge from 60 golfers that came from Limbe, Thyolo, Blantyre and Zomba.

“Let me confess here that this is my first time to win a golf competition. It was a big test to play alongside reputable golfers and come out victorious. I applaud the sponsors as well as fellow golfers for making a difference throughout the tournament,” he said.

Katsala received an electrical frying pan plus a miniature trophy whereas Nickson Makawa counted out John Kadzandira to clinch the second position on 35 points. A Mr J Suwedi hit the longest drive of the day.

In the women’s category where only two ladies participated, Sheila Golowa scooped the winner’s prize of an electrical frying pan plus a miniature trophy.

Speaking before prize presentation, J and J Construction managing director James Chuma hailed the golfers for taking part in the tournament.

“Let me appreciate the fact that the tournament attracted people of dignity in society. Our sponsoring of golf here in Zomba was solely on non-commercial basis, but the support we have received cannot
be taken for granted,” he said.
