On his debut for Civo, Dan Katunga scored against Bvumbwe Research on Saturday, to help his side progress to the third round of the Carlsberg Cup.

Katunga, a former Red Lions player, dribbled past two Bvumbwe defenders to shake the net in the 19th minute. It was the only goal of the match.

“It is a breath of fresh air as the pressure was too much on both the players and the technical panel after a poor run,” said Civo assistant coach Dave Chirwa after the match.

Chirwa also praised Katunga.

“He had a fantastic game and for him to play like that on his debut, it was not easy.”

Three kilometres away, Blue Eagles overcame determined Maicc FC and also made it into the last 16.

Eagles coach Deklerk Msakakuona was ecstatic about the result in a telephone interview: “Like I told you before the match, it does not pay to underrate your opponent. They came prepared, but at the end of it all we carried the day. The Carlsberg Cup is the only thing remaining now after we failed in the Standard Bank and Presidential cups. We have to work hard to win it.”
