Nyasa Big Bullets have agreed on a R200 000 (about K10.8 million) transfer fee for their burly forward Muhammad Sulumba who is set to start a new lease of life at South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) outfit Polokwane City.

The People’s Team is also set to pocket R300 000 (about K16.2 million) as transfer fee for defender John Lanjesi in December having agreed in principle with the same club.

The club’s interim general secretary Kelvin Moyo and Polokwane’s owner Johnny Mogaladi confirmed the development in separate interviews yesterday.

“The terms were already agreed with the previous chairperson [Samuel Chilunga] and all that the current executive did was just to endorse.

“We have been in touch with the club and they will be making a formal offer later today [yesterday],” Moyo said.

He also said the club is still keen to sign Lanjesi who is recovering from a hairline leg fracture he suffered while on national duty in Zimbabwe.

“According to them [Polokwane], their priority is Lanjesi and are keen to sign him in December when the next transfer window reopens.

“Nevertheless, although a transfer fee was already agreed, they will continue to monitor his recovery progress and performance between now and December.”

He said Lanjesi is set to bounce back at the start of the TNM Super League second round.

On his part, Mogaladi said: “Through our management team, we have formally agreed with Bullets on the two players and we hope to finalise everything regarding Sulumba by the end of this week.

“We are also keen on John, he remains a priority and that is why in principal, we had to agree on the terms, but we will have to wait for the next transfer window so that we give him a chance to catch up on fitness,” he said.

Sulumba has since accepted the two-and-a-half-year contract offered by Polokwane by putting pen to paper.

“I have signed the contract and I am very relieved coming just a year after the collapse of the three- year deal at Jomo Cosmos.

“I thank Gold almighty for providing me with another opening and I also want to recognise the role that Esau Kanyenda played in this deal. The rest is now up to me,” said Sulumba, who is yet to be registered as he is awaiting a work permit.

Kanyenda dismissed fears that Sulumba could be reduced to a sideshow like other Malawian players who struggled to break into PSL teams.

“If he displays the same commitment and hard-working spirit as he did during trials, I have no doubt that he will make the grade,” he said.
