Zambian stable Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions says Osgood Kayuni’s win against Tanzanian Allan Kamote last Wednesday is good for his upcoming bout against Zimbabwean Charles Manyuchi in Lusaka.

Kayuni will fight Manyuchi in an eight-round non-title bout on the undercard of Catherine Phiri who is expected to defend her World Professional Boxing Federation ( WPBF) bantamweight belt against Norj Guro of Philippines.

Oriental’s operations and administration manager Chris Malunga said Kayuni’s win against Kamote was vital for the promotion of his bout scheduled for February 2.

“We are impressed that Kayuni won against Kamote. That is good news as it raised his profile ahead of the Lusaka bout. Such developments make it easier to market him to Zambian fans and sponsors.

“We have heard a lot about Kayuni and we want to give him one more test against Manyuchi and then we can sign him and promote him for bigger international fights,” said Malunga in a telephone interview from Zambia.

Malunga said Kayuni’s performance in Zambia will determine their future links with Malawi boxing.

“We are planning to expand our stable to Malawi, but we have to see how Malawians perform through Kayuni’s fight.

“We have ventured into Zimbabwe by signing Manyuchi and now we want to test Malawi,” he said.

He added that the stable is finalising the contract which will be sent to Kayuni by New Year’s Day.

Kayuni said he is ready for the challenge and is now focused on fighting more international bouts.

“I am done with local fights. I have fought almost everybody and have got the results. It is time to venture into international fights.

“I am willing to take up the challenge and will give my best in Zambia in order to impress the promoters and get a deal to fight for world titles under their stable,” he said.

Kayuni’s manager Olusegun Kapanga said they are excited with the offer and will ensure they prepare thoroughly for the bout.

“Manyuchi is a great boxer so we need proper preparations for that bout. It will be a milestone for Kayuni as this can open a big chapter in his boxing career,” said Kapanga.
