Malawi Defence Force (MDF) boxer Osgood Kayuni will fight welterweight champion Israel Kam’mwamba on August 4 in a title bout organised by Ngwenyama Boxing Promotions in Lilongwe.

In an interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana) yesterday, Ngwenyama Boxing Promotions manager Patrick Ngwenyama asked the boxing fraternity to patronise M1 Centre Point to watch the fight.

“The boys are doing well in their respective camps.

Kayuni (L) faces Kam’mwamba on his return to the ring

“On the day at M1 Centre Point, fire will blaze because title fights are difficult to predict. I urge the fans to come in large numbers to witness for themselves who will go home with the belt.

“As Ngwenyama Boxing Promotions, we promise the boxing fraternity that we will bring them the best of fights this year, including this one,” he said.

Kam’mwamba defeated Salimu Chazama at the same venue in the fourth round early this year.

The champion said he is not afraid of facing the seasoned Kayuni.

“I do not have much to say, but what I can promise my fans is that I will remain the champion.

“Kayuni is a good boxer, but I will do my best to win,” Kam’mwamba said.

He also thanked the organisers for arranging the fight.

On his part, Kayuni said he will use the fight to reclaim his lost glory.

“People should come in large numbers to watch the fight. I have not fought for two years, but I want to show that I’m still good,” he added.

In the main supporting bout, Hannock Phiri will face Limbani Chikapa, Yohane Banda will date Yamikani Mkandawire, Robert Kachiza takes on Henry Kapeni while Loveness Kokha will fight Agnes Lewis in a women’s affair.
