Kayuni to fight Zim boxer in Zambia
Light Welterweight Osgood Kayuni will fight Zimbabwean boxer Charles Manyuchi in an eight-round non-title bout on March 23 at Government Complex in Lusaka, Zambia.
The bout, which is one of the eight curtain-raisers for World Professional Boxing Federation (WPBF) bantamweight fight between Zambian Catherine Phiri and Filipino Leslie Domingo, has been organised by Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions (OQBP) of Zambia.
OQBP operations director Chris Malunga brokered the deal.
Kayuni said he is ready to face Manyuchi and is confident of victory.
“His record is great and I have watched his fight against Dyson Mwisa on DStv. [But] I am confident that I will beat him,” he said on Thursday from his base at Kamuzu Barracks.
Kayuni also said he is excited because the fight will be beamed live on SuperSport.
“It’s my time to get exposure. I want to shine in Zambia so that I can land bigger contracts and fight the continent’s best boxers. I have been training hard. I am in shape,” he said.
He expressed gratitude to fellow boxers, Wilson Masamba, Chrispine Moliati and Chimwemwe Chiotcha for assisting him in training
Kayuni’s opponent Manyuchi has fought 12 times, won nine fights through technical knockouts and lost two.
Kayuni on the other hand has had 14 fights since turning professional. He has won 13 times and drawn once.
According to Malunga, Malawian female boxer Happiness Nkhoma will also be part of the cast on March 23. She will face Zambian Queens Sakala.
