Malani Kayuni on Monday set about the flurry of mind games ahead of Sunday’s lightweight elimination bout against Wilson Masamba at Lilongwe Community Centre ground, by declaring that it will be payback time.

The last time the two met in Blantyre over two years ago Masamba emerged the winner on TKO [technical knockout], but Kayuni is now talking tough, saying it is time to avenge the defeat.

“We are just a few days away from the bout and I can confidently say I am set for revenge and Wilson would better watch out,” said Kayuni from Lilongwe.

However, Masamba played down Kayuni’s outburst, saying he is looking beyond this fight.

“That is just a fantasy for I will beat him again come Sunday, I will finish him in order to shut him up,” he said.

Masamba said the bout will help him tune up for a title fight against Salimu Chazama scheduled for May 3.

However, Malani says he also wants to use this bout to clean his dented record, claiming he was fighting without enough training lately.

“I also want to snatch a chance to fight Chazama for this belt. I want to show Masamba that his time is finished and that I am the right candidate to line up against Chazama,” he said.

The bout has been organised by New Dawn Boxing Promotions and the main supporting bout will be between Kudakwashe Banda and Mussa Mkwanda.
