The battle lines have been drawn as the fine home run for team-of-the-moment Kamuzu Barracks (KB) gets yet another test this afternoon when they engage ‘brothers in arms’ Mafco at Dedza Stadium.

Such is KB’s remarkable run so far this season that they are yet to test defeat at their backyard, where they have won five and drawn three.

Their away record is not bad, either. They have won five, drawn once and lost once.

KB top the table with 30 points from 15 games and their coach Billy Phambala is aware that any slip could prove fatal as their Zomba-based sister team Red Lions and Mighty Wanderers are breathing down their neck on 28 points each.

“The league is getting hotter each passing week and the more we play games, the more the pressure piles up,” said Phambala who has enough armoury in talisman Harvey Nkacha, workhorse Dave Banda, burly forward Joel Chipofya, slippery winger Kelvin Malikebu and Diouf Simaone.

Mafco coach Sterio Gondwe said they are not worried with KB’s good home run and they will be out to improve their position on the log table. Mafco are on 11th position with 17 points from 15 games.

At Kalulu Stadium in Nchalo, Wanderers face Azam Tigers.

The Nomads will be relishing a double having become the first team to hand Azam Tigers a first league defeat in the first round.

Nomads coach Stuart Mbolembole described today’s fixture as a must-win if they are to keep their title hopes on the boil.

Big Bullets take on Civo United at Kamuzu Stadium.

Bullets are on seventh position with 23 points from 15 games and their assistant coach Gerald Phiri Snr said they are looking forward to reviving their title hopes.
