Kamuzu Barracks Gospel Singers, who have caused a sensation on the music scene with their high-voltage stage performances, on Sunday donated assorted items to Malingunde School of the Blind.

The items included cement, sugar, rice, soap and salt, valued at K306 000 (about $765).

Band leader Ackim Msowoya said the donation was as a result of a visit the gospel choir made to Malingunde CCAP Church earlier this year.

“We performed at Malingunde CCAP Church. That was when we learned about the challenges faced by pupils at the school,” said Msowoya.

He said through the donation the group is fulfilling the teachings of Jesus Christ who emphasised the need to give to the poor.

Group Village Head Yosef, who is in charge of the welfare department at the school, thanked the choir for the donation.

“What you have done is very commendable. For things to work well here in terms of pupil’s welfare, we depend on well-wishers. Most of the government funding goes towards administration and salaries of employees,” he said.
