Kamuzu Barracks Gospel singers last Sunday donated assorted items to Malingunde School of the Blind.

The items included 10 bags of cement, five bales of sugar, 100 kilogrammes of rice, cartons of soap, bags of salt and many other commodities valued at K306 000 (about $765).

Band leader Ackim Msowoya said the donation was a result of a visit the choir made to Malingunde CCAP Church earlier this year.

“We performed at the Malingunde CCAP Church. That is when we learned about challenges pupils at the school are facing. We pledged that using returns from the sale of our album, we would donate something to ease the pupils suffering,” he said.

Group Village Head Yosef, who is in charge of the welfare department at the school, thanked the choir for the items.

“These pupils face hardships as funding from government is not enough to cater for some basic needs.

“You have done a commendable thing. For things to work well here, we depend on well-wishers,” he said.

Msowoya said depending on the success of the group’s fund-raising activities, they plan to make more donations to the institution
