Kamuzu Barracks FC management has announced that each of their players will get not less than K150 000 (about $375) in appreciation of winning the Carlsberg Cup.

The club’s vice-chairperson Lieutenant Duncan Taipi said the players did a great job and it is only fitting that they be rewarded.

“It will motivate them to excel and possibly we can win a treble this year. We have a great club of hungry players who play as a team. With the optimism and confidence prevailing in the team, it will be hard for teams to stop us,” said Taipi.

KB have reason to feel motivated after Army Commander Henry Odillo promoted the entire club after achieving the Carlsberg feat.

In showing appreciation for the support they get from Dedza where they have their home ground, KB on Wednesday donated to the district hospital items worth K250 000 (about $625. The items included blankets and salt, sugar and soap hampers.

“Since making Dedza our home ground, the district has been special to us as the people give us support in all our games. Management decided to show our appreciation by donating something to the district, hence the decision to donate to the hospital,” said Taipi.

He said they sourced the money for the kind gesture from somewhere as they await to encash their cheque from Carlsberg Malawi Limited.

KB beat Moyale Barracks 1-0 to win the Carlsberg Cup at Mzuzu Stadium on September 14.
