KB Snipers win Goodwill Darts tourney

Kamuzu Barracks (KB) Snipers on Saturday won the inaugural Goodwill Darts competition after beating Centurion 7-5 in the final at Goodwill Entertainment Centre in Lilongwe.

KB Snipers overcame C2K Lions 8-4 in the semi-finals while Centurion saw off MDF Engineering 7-5.

Snipers vice-captain Kenneth Lundu attributed the triumph to determination.

“It was a tense, but exciting final considering that the teams that qualified for the semi-finals have been giving us a tough time.

“This is a very exciting moment for us as we have at least  won silverware which will encourage our sponsor,” he said.

As champions, KB Snipers received a trophy and K80 000 while Centurion got K60 000 as runners-up.

MDF Engineering finished third after trouncing C2K Lions 7-5 in a third-place battle and they received K40 000.

Central Region Darts League (CRDL) Chairperson MacDonald Khonsolo thanked the sponsors of the competition, saying it has helped to enhance level of competition in the region.

“I would like to thank  the sponsor [Austin Kalua], management and staff of Goodwill Entertainment Centre for accepting our request to keep the players busy during this off season,” he said.

Kalua said the competition had lived up to its billing.

“We have witnessed a stiff competition throughout the race and we are proud to be associated with the development of darts, “ he said. n
