Defending champions Kamuzu Barracks (KB) and Spikers will represent the Central Region at the national finals of the Presidential Volleyball Cup.

The teams met in the regional finals held on Sunday at Kumudzi Eco-Learning Centre.

KB beat Spikers 3-0 to retain the regional honours. Chota Mwenifumbo, Sydney Amadi, Yuno Sitima and Timothy Kamwana inspired the victory.

To reach the finals, KB saw off Kaime 3-0 in the semi-finals whereas Spikers beat Blue Eagles 3-2.

As regional champions, KB received K40 000 (about $160) while Spikers got K30 000 (about $120).

In the third place battle, Blue Eagles stunned Kaime 3-2. Blue Eagles received K15 000 (about $60) whereas Kaime got K5 000 (about $20).

Both Central Region Volleyball League (CRVL) chairperson Robert White and publicity secretary Emmanuel Chipungu said they are confident that the region will retain the national honours.

“We expect the region to defend the trophy again this time. We have trust in our ambassadors, and nothing will stop us,” said White.

The national finals will be played on June 16-17 at a venue yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, the Presidential schools volleyball competition started on Sunday at Lilongwe Community Centre Court.
