KCH dental unit operating without essential equipment
Dental patients referred to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) are made to wait for hours or days to access treatment because the unit has no working equipment for operating on patients.
Dr Jessie Mlotha-Namarika, chief dental surgeon and head of the Dental Department at KCH, confirmed about the situation in an interview on the sidelines of a donation from the Rotary Club of Lilongwe last week.
She said the operating equipment in the department broke down.
Said Mlotha-Namarika: “The biggest challenge we have is compressors. We need at least K1.5 million for a compressor.”
Rotary Club of Lilongwe past assistant governor Smile Namagonya assured the unit of the Rotarians’ continued support to complement its efforts to provide quality dental healthcare services. n
