If I were

Ken Lipenga

Listen to this article

Finance Minister, I would seriously consider resigning following revelations that the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) borrowed billions of kwacha from banks to paint a rosy picture of revenue collection.

I would realise, if I were the Finance Minister, that my desperate claim that I was ignorant of the transaction is not convincing because one wonders how the revenue collection body can borrow such a huge amount of money without the approval of the Treasury.

How I wish I were the Finance Minister, because I would appreciate the fact that as the minister responsible, It makes me to be part of the mess and if I was not aware, then it means I was not in control of what was happening in my own ministry.

If I were Dr. Lipenga, I would take it on the chin and admit that the revelations have exposed me big time!

I would also appreciate that my reputation has been badly damaged in the wake of the revelations.

Other than wait for the boot, I would resign honourably so as to save the integrity left of me.

That is of course if I happened to be the Minister of Finance, fortunately I am not the good man that is Dr. Ken!
