Kid Mkandawire arrives in the country today (Thursday) ahead of a nationwide tour which starts at Sunbird Mzuzu at the weekend.

The musician made headlines with Kalimba Band and Love Aquarius in the 1980s before migrating to Denmark about 15 years ago.

During the tour, he will play alongside Vita Chirwa and a new-look Kalimba, but he cannot wait to be part of the group which catapulted him to stardom.

“I have packed my bags ready for the tour. Malawi get ready for it is going to be a massive party. I have worked on a new album, Mafumbo, with an old Kalimba friend Stan Phiri. I will perform most of the songs from the new release,” said Kid, who last came home in 2000.

This time, he will hold two shows at Sunbird Mzuzu, one tomorrow and another on Sunday afternoon.

According to Chirwa, Kid will arrive through Kamuzu International Airport aboard Kenyan Airways.

“A series of exciting concerts have been organised by the band that launched his musical career, Kalimba, in a bid to rekindle memories of the good old Sometimes I Wonder days and to promote Kid’s latest album, Mafumbo,” said Chirwa.

Kidd plays with a Danish band known as Kidd and The First People—named after the

first musicians he met after settling in the Scandinavian country.

Next week, he will perform at Sunbird Mount Soche in Blantyre and Sunbird Capital in Lilongwe. He will wind up the tour with an afternoon gig for
Capital City Motel’s Jazz Gardens.
