Kukoma Diamonds are courting England-based netballer Laureen Ngwira with the hope of getting her on board.

Ngwira’s six-month contract with Superleague side Team Nothumbria has expired and chances of her extending her deal look uncertain as the team has pulled out from the league.

Diamonds’ vice-chairperson Lumbani Mtonya confirmed reviving their bid to sign the Queens goal-defender and the team’s officials were captured having discussions with the player in Blantyre at the weekend.

“Yes, I can confirm that we have revived our bid to sign Laureen because she is a quality player and she could add value to our tea.

“We had a fruitful meeting with her and we made an offer. Right now we are trying to enquire about her status as a player and we will take it up from there,” he said.

Tigresses officials could not be reached for comment yesterday, but they are on record as having said Ngwira still has a contract with them and their understanding was that she was at Team Nothumbria on loan.

Ngwira yesterday refused to comment on the issue.
