Kukoma Diamonds have broken domestic netball player transfer record with the signing of defender Anabel Phiri from Mzuzu-based Lameck Queens at K600 000 ($822).

The 24-year-old has become the most expensive netball player on the domestic scene so far as she has overtaken the K350 000 ($480) deal that took Diamonds and Malawi Queens captain Carol Mtukule-Ngwira from Tigresses in 2008.Kukoma Diamonds

The Airtel Money Netball Tournament champions officially unveiled the lofty defender alongside their sponsors Capital Oil Refining Industry (Cori) in Blantyre on Monday.

“We are excited to have signed a defender, who has all the necessary ingredients we need; she has height, physique and confidence,” said Diamonds general secretary Chimwemwe Bakali.

On her part, Phiri, whose height stands at 1.8m, said she is happy to have joined her dream team in domestic netball and she is ready to take the challenge.
