Kukoma Diamonds sponsors Capital Oil Refining Industry (Cori) on Tuesday evening organised a send-off party for the netball giants ahead of today’s Airtel Money Netball Championship’s national finals at Don Bosco in Lilongwe.

The party was held at Monarch Square Gardens in Blantyre where the manufacturers of Kukoma and Golden K cooking oil treated the team to a sumptuous three-course meal that was spiced by a live band performance.

Since the company took over sponsorship of the team last year, Diamonds have snatched from their rivals Tigresses two major trophies, namely the Presidential Cup and GOtv Netball Challenge, but they are yet to grab the Airtel Money trophy, which Tigresses have defended twice.

“Since we started sponsoring the team, we have not been disappointed. They brought us two major trophies. We organised this party to motivate the team to win the Airtel Money trophy. After all, they deserved a memorable send-off to the national finals,” said Cori senior manager John Damson.

According to Cori human resources manager Robert Mwanja, great things await the Diamonds players if they return to the commercial city with the Airtel Money trophy.

Diamonds captain Carol Mtukule-Ngwira said they will do everything possible to win the Airtel Money title.

“It pains us that we have not won the Airtel Money trophy since its inauguration in 2013,” Mtukule-Ngwira said.

On his part, Diamonds general secretary Chimwemwe Bakali said they will also help to promote the company’s products during the national finals.

According to Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) general secretary Carol Bapu, all is set for the three-day national finals.

Diamonds were seeded for the national finals from the South alongside defending champions Tigresses and Thunder Queens.

Alliance Capital Stars and Prison Sisters made it after winning Southern and Eastern Region encounters, respectively.

In the Centre, Green Sisters qualified alongside seeded teams Blue Eagles Sisters, Civonets and Mafco Soldiers while from the North, Young Sisters will join Misosa Queens and Lameck Sisters at national level. n
