Kumudzi Eco Learning Centre, owned by a Luanar University professor Dr David Mkwambisi, has funded the Lilongwe Amateur Association to organize a boxing tournament.

The tournament will be held this coming Sunday at the Kumudzi Eco Learning Centre which is located along Bunda Road near Bunda College.

“It is part of our mission here at Kumudzi to promote sports and cultural activities. We are glad to do something to develop boxing,” said Mkwambisi.

Initially, Kumudzi wanted to engage New Dawn Boxing Promotions to organise a professional tournament, but instead opted to support organize amateur boxing.

“We want through this tournament to entertain the community around this area. People here are starved of entertainment as they can’t travel to town to watch boxing. The fights will be free for the community to enjoy,” said Mkwambisi.

Cassim Makwinja, who heads the organising committee of the amateur bouts, said people should expect top action.

“The main fight will involve top amateur boxers Byson Fuso Fighter Gwayani and Simeon Tchete. There will also be a females fight on the day,” said Makwinja. n
