“We did not hesitate to support this beauty pageant because the sole purpose is to promote Malawi’s culture at the local and international level,” said Kwik-Fit Lilongwe Branch sales manager Maseko Banda.

He said the donation was a continuation of Kwik-Fit’s charity activities.

Organiser of the event, Tadala Chihana, said the Miss Heritage pageant will see 14 finalists competing for the crown.

The winner will represent Malawi at the Miss Heritage Global event scheduled to take place on December 4 in Sandton, South Africa, with the winner expected to pocket $10 000 (about K7.3 million).

Said Chihana: “The winner of this beauty pageant will get a package worth K500 000. Her trip to South Africa and other logistics such as accommodation and clothing are fully paid for.

“The pageant will help build future female leaders and build confidence as well as instilling the spirit of patriotism in them.”

Miss Heritage Malawi 2016 started with auditions in the country’s major cities in April.

The screening process identified 22 girls, a figure that was later trimmed to 14.

The event is held in partnership with the Ministry of Civic Education, Culture and Community Development. n
