Lab Enterprise Matchplay in second round

The Lab Enterprise Matchplay Golf Finals keeps gaining momentum with half of the initial 64 teams booted out in the first round.

According to one of the organisers, Dingaan Chirwa, the tournament, that is being staged at Blantyre Sports Club (BSC), was open to all golfers.

Sponsors and organisers of the tournament have expressed satisfaction with the progress.

Lab Enterprise managing director Noel Lipipa said: “We are happy with the progress of the tournament, it is getting more and more exciting.”

Chirwa said everything is going according to plan and they expect the second round to be through by November 4 whereas the deadline for the quarter-finals is November 18. The semi-finals are expected to be played on December 2 with the grand finals slated for December 9.

The match that has been delayed is that involving Harold Lungu and Stevie Chisale who are supposed to face Wilma Chalulu and Margret Mukhwena.

The notable casualties in the first round were plus-2 handcapped Paul Chidale and John Suzi Banda.

Golf Union of Malawi (GUoM) president James Chimwaza and BSC golf captain Medson Kalambule were also booted out by the pair of Mischeck Esau and William Mabulekesi.

Pairs that have qualified for the second round are those of Edwin Chipala and Donbell Mandala; Charles Merrick and Chris Kapanga; Victor Jere and Dingaan Chirwa; Beatrice Mangwana and Colin Sibande; Bernard Chizaka and Teri Amaro; Justice John Katsala and Sope Kayira; Thom Nkosi-Banda and Gladson Kuyeri; Gabriel Kambale and Harold Jiya; Welkam Phiri and Sam Mwale; Phillip Phambana and Titus Nnensa; Steve Chanje and Daniel Nyirenda; Stella and Zachariah Hara; Bright Dzoole and Tony Chiwaya; Dr. Adriel Guarino and Andrew Santhe; Esau and Mabulekesi.
