“This is an exclusive partnership with them as a voice for such a natural resource and it is big for me. The conversations about our natural resources need to go to the global platform,” said Lawi.

He said being involved in natural resources conservation matters is a great honour.

“I have been involved in conservation activities in the past through Lilongwe Wildlife Trust, but I never saw this coming. It is such a big honour,” said Lawi.

In a separate interview, his manager Lulama Njapa said there is so much that Lawi will be involved in based on the interests of the two parties.

“The ambassadorship role involves being the voice when it comes to conversations about Mount Mulanje’s history and aesthetics, myths, beliefs and all stories associated with the mountain,” she said.

Njapa said MMCT approached Lawi to help them raise awareness on activities that they are doing.
