Lawmakers urged to respect the Constitution

Chief Justice Anastanzia Msosa has urged the country’s parliamentarians to live up to their oath of allegiance and always protect the country’s Constitution.

Msosa made the appeal yesterday during a swearing-in ceremony for Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) newly elected members of Parliament (MPs), Gerson Solomoni (Thyolo East) and Francis Phiso (Blantyre North).

Speaking inside Parliament chambers, Msosa challenged the two to ensure “the Constitution is always at the back of their minds” when transacting business in the august House.

“I urge you to observe your oath religiously and to have the welfare of the people at heart when you are making laws,” said Msosa.

Speaking in an interview, Solomoni, a former businessperson and trained accountant joining Parliament for the first time, said he was looking forward to responding to the call and “serve my constituents with distinction”.

Phiso has made a comeback to the House after representing DPP during the previous term.

  2. These are not lawmakers but (law-breakers) and confused beings. How do they understand about the law. The best description be that they are job-seekers or to use Senior Muluzi’s language “they are opportunists.”
