If I were

Lazarus Chakwera

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president, I would realise that I am losing grip of the party on the evidence of the recent internal rifts.

If I were the MCP boss, I would realise that the situation is not healthy, especially in the countdown to the 2019 polls.

How I wish I were the good reverend, who is baba  o’ Chakwera, because I would appreciate that when party leaders are being chased from rallies for holding altenative views, it does not portray a good picture of me.

Oh yes, I would realise the importance of practising intra-party democracy because the so-called dissenting views are just another point of view.

As the man at the helm, I would halt the crackdown reminiscent of the dark days of one-party rule and take the initiative to stop the rot by calling for all those concerned with an aim of finding a lasting solution.

If only I were Chakwera, I would realise the need for MCP to demonstrate its status as the biggest opposition party in the land.

Oh yes, that is if I happened to be the Rev. Chakwera, unfortunately I am not the MCP leader.
