Home Politics If I were

Lazarus Chakwera or Saulos Chilima

State President and State Vice-President, respectively, I would not ignore the violence that occured in Karonga Central Constituency ahead of yesterday’s parliamentary by-election which involved our candidates.
Being the main partners in the governing Tonse Alliance, I would appreciate that the ugly scenes portray a bad picture of our parties which are supposed to be allies.
If I were either of the top citizens, I would realise that, as leaders of this country, we are supposed to lead by example and, therefore, would not only condemn the ugly scenes but also make an effort to ensure that such madness does not happen again.
How I wish I were Chakwera or Chilima because I would realise that while we, as leaders, might be in good terms, the harsh reality is that the situation is not the same with some of our followers.
As party leaders for some of the candidates, I would conduct a postmortem to establish the cause and indeed find solutions.
I would appreciate that when supporters for two parties whose leaders are State President and Vice-President ,respectively, are involved in bloody fights, then something is terribly wrong.
That is if I were Dr Laz and SKC, but nay I am Garry. n
