The Lilongwe and Districts Darts League (LDDL) on Saturday elected new office bearers during an annual general meeting which took place at the Malawi Armed Forces College (Mafco) in Salima.

The elections, which attracted 20 candidates, were described as free and fair by the outgoing general secretary Austin Singini who was the presiding officer.

“I am impressed with the turn-up. Besides, there were no quarrels and the whole process went on smoothly,” said Singini.

District commissioner for Dowa, James Manyetera, who plays for Dowa Flights, was elected chairperson. His deputy is Chiwoko Ladies player, Rabecca Mwale.

The position of general secretary went to Chester Kayange.

The vote for the treasurer was deferred after it transpired that those that had shown interest to run for the position did not turn up. Rules do not allow voting for someone in absentia, so the gathering agreed to elect the treasurer during the captains’ meeting next week.

Manyetera assured the gathering that he will try his best to secure sponsorship for most of the teams to make the league more competitive.

In his acceptance speech, Kayange promised to take darts in the Central Region to new heights by working closely with all teams.

Kayange served as the league’s vice-chairperson from 2005 to 2007.

LDDL has 12 teams.
