Lilongwe and Districts Football League (LDFL) vice-chairperson Charles Kapichi has promised not to dent the image of their sponsors Chipiku Stores.

Kapichi made the promise at the official launch of 2012/13 season at Dedza Stadium on Sunday.

The launch was spiced up with a Division One game between Dedza Strikers and Dedza Young Soccer, which ended in a 1-1 draw. There was also a parading of three trophies.

Kapichi said the league will enhance discipline and punish perpetrators of hooliganism without fear or favour.

“We will safeguard this sponsorship jealously. We will punish those that will be against discipline. The league becomes competitive with sponsorship and we cannot afford to lose the friendship we have with Chipiku due to hooliganism,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of Chipiku Stores regional operations manager, Salian Rajesh, regional manager Eran Konzetani said the sponsorship is part of their social responsibility and they are impressed with the way teams compete in the league.

“We want to see more and more teams go and establish themselves in the Super League, not just being there for a season,” said Konzetani.

He advised the committee running the league to be transparent.
