Let’s appreciate our relatives

Listen to this article

Akossa,

I agree with you 100 percent on the ed’s note you wrote last week. As Malawians, we should be proud of our extended family culture and work to nurture the relatives and good friends we have because these are the people that form our support system.

Hospital visits, funeral arrangements, not to mention weddings and other celebrations, are all held together by people who care for us.

In those times when we have no strength to coordinate or be fussy, these people step in and help us out in their own little way. For this, we need to be thankful both to them and to God.

I know that in some families, disagreements run high, jealousy fuels hatred and tension rules everyday relationships. However, I am sure that even in such families, not all the people are bad and, it is in such instances where close friends become one’s family.

Bravo on pointing that out! I hope our generation learns the importance of family, as most of them seem to be selfish and self-absorbed.

Mrs Chikuni,

Manja
