Let’s do it for Mwawi!

Listen to this article

A fortnight ago, I sat next to an attractive middle-aged woman in a minibus, an essence of beauty with striking  looks. She was glued to her smart phone.

A stolen glance on her phone revealed she was preoccupied with a video clip that went viral on social media—circulating rapidly and widely like bush fire—of a purported British soldier having a good time with a young woman.

Will she be allowed to play? Mwawi
In the clip, the man is captured vigorously making love to the young lady, who in the line of ‘duty’ even had the cheek to lie to her fiancé that she was having a bath, saying: “Ndimasamba, kugona mom’mo…iii phone yake battery low” and then she cut the line as things reached the climax—boy, oh boy!

My cousin was also a victim of this ‘evil’ clip when she missed her flight in Johannesburg after she got carried away with the clip—watching it over and over again in her hotel room.

Well,  as I chilled out at my pad on a lazy Sunday—at peace with myself—I wondered if countless people had all the time to watch and comment on the clip over and over again  like that cute girl I sat next to in a minibus, then can’t they  also spare time to vote for our netball icon Mwawi Kumwenda who has been nominated for the International World Games Association (IWGA) 2015 Athlete of the Year.

It is not every time that we celebrate a moment of brilliance by our sports ambassadors. Let us  spare a moment to salute our heroin in her quest for greatness by voting for her on IWGA link www.the worldgames.org Let us show the world that as a country, we do not make headlines for the wrong reasons such as killing innocent albinos, kutamba and Cashgate. Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera has set the ball rolling by declaring that he will be voting everyday. Glory be to God. Uloliwe…uloliwe wayidudula hah!, neng’esiza [The train is pushing].
