Self-acclaimed ‘Soldier’, Lucius Banda, Lulu and Sally Nyundo share the stage at Wakawaka Hotel in Lilongwe for a fundraising concert for the Malawi Library Association (Mala) dubbed, Music ya Mitchona, on March 30.

The concert aims at raising funds towards XXI Standing Conference of Eastern, Central and Southern Africa Library and Information Associations (SCECSAL XXI) from July 28 to August 1 2014 which will be hosted by Mala.

In a press release made available to The Nation, Mala believes the concert will also inform people about the importance of libraries and their critical role in social, cultural and economic development:

“We believe the much touted quotation to be very untrue; that ‘The best way to hide something from black people is to put it in a book’ because all kinds of people use our libraries, all the time. We have chosen music as a fundraiser because it fosters communication and displays creativity; it is experiencing the world of books and words from a new dimension,” reads the statement.
