Platinum 9 is a mini concert organised by Lifestyle Events that incorporates different mediums of art such as music, poetry, visual arts and dance.

Kim of Diamonds: This opportunity means a lot

According to Lifestyle Events founder Emmanuel Kaunda, the all-female cast will on November 7 perform at the Story Club in Lilongwe in another episode of the series which got suspended due to Covid-19 pandemic precautionary measures.

“We normally do a mixed set of both male and female artists, this time we decided to celebrate the ladies. With the current series, our aim is to simply celebrate the talented women in the country. They are so many but we tried to get the few we could for this session,” he said.

Kaunda said the theme of the event is Black Excellence.

He said: “We are celebrating every individual and embracing their uniqueness in concert form. The line-up is quite incredible. We have singers, poets, DJs and graphic designers, among others.

“While we have many other gifted and talented artists in Malawi, unfortunately, sometimes they do not have a stage to introduce their work to a larger audience.”

In a separate interview, musician Kim of Diamonds hailed the Platinum 9 event as a platform giving the stage to underdogs who are on the rise.

“This opportunity means a lot to me in several ways. Platinum 9 gives young artists and creatives, who sometimes are overlooked, an opportunity to perfect their performance skill set,” said the artist whose real name is Kimberley Kaunda.

She said having an all-female line up cements the fact that women can and are doing it.

“It does open our eyes to what women have a lot to offer. I feel in the past women have not been appreciated enough or given opportunities to truly show what they can offer. We have a lot in us to be showcased.

I hope initiatives like these, show us that women can express themselves, as they want, when they want, where they want,” said Kim.

The event will feature artists such as Kim of Diamonds, Esther Chitheka-Louis, Theresa Phondo, poet Phindu Banda, rapper Luki, RJ the DJ and Cynthia Zulu as the host. n
