Lightning kills one in Ntchisi

Lightning has killed a 40-year-old man in the Central Region district of Ntchisi. The deceased, Richard Banda who was living in Sankhani Village T/A Chilooko but hails from Buleya village, T/A Khombedza in  Salima, died after lightning struck his house on Tuesday.

In an interview, Ntchisi Police public relations officer Gladson M’bumpha said there was heavy rainfall in Ntchisi on Tuesday. According to M’bumpha, the deceased took his four children to his in-law’s house to warm themselves since his house was leaking and upon return to his house, that is when lightning struck his house killing him and burning the house in the process.Migrants Continue To Arrive On Greek Island Of Kos

M’bumpha said that Banda was pronounced dead upon arrival at Chinguluwe Health Centre in the district. The incident happened just hours after lightning also struck in Phalombe, killing three women and injuring two others at a funeral vigil.

From last week, most parts of the country have been receiving pre-season rains (chizimalupsa) which have damaged property and injured several people in Mzimba, Salima and Balaka, among other areas.
