Lightning kills student in Nkhata Bay

A Chintheche Private Secondary School student has died after being struck by lightning on Tuesday in Nkhata Bay. The student was identified as Francisco Msuku, 19, who came from Mkeya Village T/A Timbiri in Nkhata Bay. According to Northern Region police deputy public relations officer Paul Tembo, the deceased was watching a film with his friends at the school when the lightning struck him and he collapsed.“A lightning suddenly struck and Francisco collapsed. He was rushed to Chintheche Rural Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival,” said Tembo. Meanwhile, a 29 year-old man was on the same day found in a decomposing state. The deceased was identified as Thomas Phiri of Wanja Village in the same district. According to Tembo, Phiri went missing on February 2, but his body was discovered on Tuesday by women who went hunting for mushroom in the forest. —DAILES BANDA, Staff Writer
