Likoma awards 2020 PSLCE best students

 Likoma District Education Office has awarded best performing students in 2020 Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) examination.

The PSLCE results show that 40 girls from the district were selected to Likoma Secondary School.

In an interview, Likoma district education manager Benford Mwakayuni said his office introduced the awards to motivate girls and teachers.

“Girls face a lot of hindrances in their education and we pledge to support them,” he said.

Likoma District Council chairperson Ernest Gulu commended the District Education Office for the initiative, saying it will motivate learners and teachers to work hard.

During the ceremony on Friday, about 40 girls that made it to secondary school went away with learning materials while teachers, head teachers and primary education advisers pocketed cash prizes ranging from K10 000 to K20 000.

Meanwhile, Likoma Conservation Foundation awarded secondary school teachers and students who performed well in the 2020 Malawi School Certificate of Education examination with cash prizes ranging from K10 000 to K40 000.

Saint Peters Primary School emerged the best while Yofu Primary School was the most improved school.
