Lilongwe City mayor Desmond Bikoko has urged individuals and

organisations to remember people in hospitals whenever they celebrate the festive seasons.

Bikoko was speaking on January 1 2019 when Lilongwe City Council cheered the sick at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in the district.

“Everybody wants to celebrate this season but others fail to do so because of sickness and it is important to come and spend some time with them. It is good to share the little with them,” he said.

The council donated hampers comprising Sobo, packets of sugar and clothes to patients in the Pediatric Ward and Ethel Mutharika Maternity Wing.

KCH principal hospital administrator Fredson Kambeni said many patients in the referral facility come from distant districts. As such, they lack many things.

“Some spend over three months and yet they came from other districts on referral arrangement and their relatives cannot visit them daily to bring them supplies. So, we are grateful,” said Kambeni.

Mercy Chimutu, whose two children were referred to the hospital from Mchinji, said she felt relieved after receiving the gifts.

She has been in the hospital for two months with her son who is suffering from malaria and her daughter who needs blood transfusion.

She thanked the council for its gesture.
