The Roads Fund Administration has allocated Lilongwe City Council (LCC) K2.5 billion to continue with the road rehabilitation works in Lilongwe City to ease transportation and commercial development of the city.

Responding to a questionnaire on Tuesday, LCC mayor Desmond Bikoko said four of the targeted five roads will be the same roads that were not fully completed in previous projects.

“Some of the roads were rehabilitated a year ago but will have to be redone by the same contractors at no additional costs to the council. Other roads will be considered once we are able to get more funding” said Bikoko.

The targeted roads are Chayamba junction (M1) to Area 18 cemetery, Kamuzu Institute to Area 23 Police Station via Area 21, 6-Miles, Biwi Triangle to Penyenye via Area 22 and Area 47 Sector 1 and 2.

The council launched the K1.8 billion first phase in May last year.

Lilongwe City South east constituency member of Parliament Rhino Chiphiko last year hailed the road projects, saying once finished will help in changing lives.
