Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe, this Sunday auditions for the revamped E-Wallet music competition, a week after Mzuzu’s turn.

The competition’s coordinator, Anthony Kafuwa, said the auditions, to be held at Sunbird Capital, would focus on aspirants’ singing and dancing talents.

He said the target age band is 16-35 years and that those between 16 and 18 years old would need consent from a guardian.

He said there would be no need for prior registration and that aspirants can just walk in between 9am and 5pm.

This year’s winner gets K500 000 (about $2 000), the runner-up K300 000 (about $1 200) and the third placed K200 000 (about $800).

Mzuzu’s auditions saw 7 out of the 86 aspirants make the grade.

E-Wallet was introduced in 2006, seeing Penjani Mdumuka claim the debut honours.

In 2007, Kenneth Kabwira carted home the honours.
