Lilongwe Msozi North MP Jiya dies

Member of Parliament (MP) for Lilongwe Msozi North, Highton Jiya, (Malawi Congress Party-MCP) died yesterday at Mwaiwathu Hospital in Blantyre.

Lilongwe district commissioner Charles Makanga confirmed the news.

“I have just received news of the death of honourable Jiya. I am yet to receive information surrounding his death and the programme for his burial. His remains are still in Blantyre,” said Makanga.

Parliament’s Social Welfare Committee chairperson Alex Major, who is also MP for Kasungu West, said Jiya died while receiving treatment for kidney failure.

Jiya’s body will be taken to Lilongwe for burial at his home village in Nathenje area in the district. n
