Mwezi Arts’ latest play Salema got a resounding nod from theatre lovers in Lilongwe during the premiere on Wednesday night at Madsoc Theatre.

Despite the chilly weather in the capital, both the young and old braved the cold breeze and filled the sizeable theatre to capacity.

From the onset, the play was captivating, creating suspense and intrigue. Filled with hilarious spots and the ancient English made Salema, which is an adaptation of the book The Crucibles more interesting.

The stage, costume and tight coordination amongst the actresses were so fantastic such that there were no dull moments.

After 70 minutes of jam packed action, there was a thunderous roll of handclapping from the patrons.

“More than happy with how the play has unfolded. Everybody gave out his/her best. The play is great in deliverance as witnessed by the great connection amongst the actresses. It is good level of theatre,” explained Stanley Mambo, artistic director.

He urged people from the other parts of the country to look out for Salema’s appearance in their town.

One of the patrons Sarah Browne said she was impressed with the level of execution.

“It was like watching a movie, a play so captivating and shows the mastery of acting by the cast crew,” she said.
