Linje basks in Kids Chess glory

Rising star Tafadzwa Linje outclassed a field of 25 contestants to win the Kids Chess Tournament at Jungle Pepper in Blantyre on Saturday.

With the defending champion and national junior chess champion Khwima Gondwe not standing in his way, the Snow White Primary School pupil managed to collect four points.

The contest valued at K100 000 (US$222) by former Southern Region Chess League (SRCL) chairperson Susan Namangale and Joseph Chafumuka, saw Linje beating Rafik Namangale, David Mkomba, Mzati Linje and Happiness Msuku before stuttering to Chiyembekezo Chilembwe.

Mkomba finished as runner-up with 3.5 points, the same points with third-placed Rafik Namangale. The two were separated by a Bucholoz tie breaking system.

Debutants Chiyembekezo Chilembwe and Hope Gondwe finished fourth and fifth,with three points apiece.

In category B, Faith Gondwe reigned. She tied on 3.5 points with Daisy Huwa, but a tie breaking system was deployed. Mirabelle Chafumuka and Troy Namaona came third and fourth positions after tying on 3 points.
