The 2013 TNM Super League’s only unbeaten side Red Lions step on Balaka Stadium today against Mighty Wanderers with a two-pronged mission.

The Lions will be looking to displace Blue Eagles at the summit Blue Eagles while also itching to preserve the Zomba soldiers’ unbeaten run that has translated into 18 points from eight games.

Back from injury, Wanderers striker Innocent Dzimbiri and ever reliable Victor Mpinganjira can stretch the Lions’ Kelvin Katemba-led defence to the limit.

Lying seventh on 14 points from eight games, Wanderers’ 1-0 beating of Azam Tigers last week suggested that the Nomads are finding their feet again.

But exciting Lions striker Boniface Kaulesi is not the one for the Nomads to ignore in this clash. And, then, there is Kumbukani Mwambene who is becoming fluent in front of goal.

The Lions face Epac tomorrow in Lilongwe.

Still in the capital city today, smarting from 1-0 losses to Red Lions and Evirom, Silver Strikers look forward to bouncing back when they host Blantyre United.

During the week, Silver general secretary Mike Tembo assured that there was no crisis at the Area 47 side that lie on unfamiliar 10th position with nine points.

“We would like to assure our supporters that the team will deliver the goods this weekend. There is no cause for worry,” said Tembo.

Silver’s three-man defence of Wonder Jeremani, Bernado Namangwiyo and Mavuto Khozomba has clearly been missing the commanding influence of captain Lucky Malata currently in South Africa.

Midfield remains the strongest department for the Bankers, but their inability to sign a number 10 striker in the transfer market has left Rodrick Gonani with similar strike partners such as Green Harawa to compete with instead of being complemented.

For United, they will be itching to climb further the table from 11th position on eight points. Leading striker Sparrow Msowoya and Muhamad Sulumba can do better.

“We just have to step up a gear,” Msowoya noted during the week. United face Mafco tomorrow while Silver take on Epac on Tuesday.
